PGP 2020: Canada sents out invitations to potential sponsors

The Government of Canada has issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to the applicants in 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program.

All the potential sponsors who showed interested in bringing their parents and grandparents to Canada during the 2020 application period have now been sent invitations.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) began sending out ITAs after holding its PGP 2020 lottery two weeks ago.

Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)

The PGP enables Canadians and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to Canada. Parents and grandparents who are accepted under this program shall be granted permanent residence and can eventually qualify for Canadian citizenship.

Time allotted to submit an application

Sponsors who have earned an invitation can apply within 60 days.

However, if an applicant is unable to gather documents due to COVID-19 related restrictions then they must provide a valid explanation for the same. If they still are facing difficulty in gathering the relevant documents, they will be provided with a 90 days extension.

IRCC urges rejected applicants to apply again in 2021 period

According to a statement released by IRCC, the potential sponsors who have not received an invitation even after successfully submitting a sponsorship application form should check their junk emails and inbox again to see they are invited or not. To further clear the confusion, one can also check on the IRCC's official website.

IRCC further goes and explains that the sponsors were selected randomly and only "10,000 applications", out of all the invitations, will be accepted for the 2020 period.

IRCC also conveyed that the Parent and Grandparents Program gained so much popularity that the number of interested applicants exceeds the number of sponsors they can accept. It also urges the sponsors who applied in 2020 but were not selected in the recent draw to apply again in 2021.

Canada Plans to Offer 30,000 Invitation in Next PGP 2021 Selection

Canada plans to offer up to 30,000 invitations to sponsors under the PGP program in 2021 selection period. Moreover, the process of selections will again be randomized. More information regarding the timeline of the process will shortly be available on the IRCC's official website.
